Favorite Quotations... What Do They Say About Us?
Have you stopped to think what your favorite quotes are
saying about you and your life experiences? How you relate to them? How they relate to you? Today... I decided to take one of my favorite quotes and see
how it applies to me. You may want to do the same thing. This quote by Louis L'Amour is one of my favorites... "Up to a point a man's life is shaped by environment,
heredity, and movements and changes in the world about
him. Then there comes a time when it lies within his grasp
to shape the clay of his life into the sort of thing he wishes
to be. Only the weak blame their parents, their race, their
times, lack of good fortune, or the quirks of fate. Everyone
has it within his power to say, "This I am today; that I will be
tomorrow." -Louis L'Amour I can look back and see how my life was shaped by early
environment, heredity and changes in the world around me. My life was shaped by my parents, friends, schools,
experiences, injuries, where I lived, moves I made, and
treatment from others, all had an effect on me. Some experiences affected me deeply. Some of these
emotional feelings remain with me and affected me later in
my life. There came a time when I realized I control my own reality
with my thinking, imagination, ideas and actions. What I
think about and focus on creates my reality. My thoughts and
imagination cause my actions. So I began to shape my life.
Knowing, I control what I can DO...BE... and HAVE. That's when I made the most progress in my life, when my
ambitions and goals came to the surface. I decided what I
wanted to do with my life. Many times these were goals and
dreams I had at an early age. Sometimes, my early goals and desires faded into the
background, but were still in my memory. I know people who habitually blame parents, environmment,
race, color, location or anything else they can think of
except... where the blame should be... On them! No one else is to blame... I take responsibility for the
good and the bad in my life, because, I create my own
reality. It's a weak person who blames everything on
somebody or something else. The things I put off are my own fault. I can't blame others,
or my environment for not taking an action... because, now
I see clearly... I Create My Own Reality! My point of power is Now... Today! I can't change the past.
The present moment is where I can make changes for my
future. My thoughts, imagination, ideas and actions today,
create my reality tomorrow. I become what I think about all day long. That determines
what I will do, be, and have tomorrow and in the future. I
create it!... I'm responsible for the good and the bad. What I
focus on becomes my reality. That's true for any and all
areas of my life. And... I believe it and accept it! Bill Parks... Computer Consultant, specializing in Filemaker

Commitment To The Journey
I have been a business owner for about a minute. In fact, that would probably be quite generous if you compared me to the business moguls out here or anywhere for that matter. But in spite of that fact, I probably know a lot about business, more than I realize and much more than you would expect, if you knew my background. It is my life as a business owner that has finally made sense of all the data and observations that I have gathered over the years. I spent 20 years of my life working for others, most unknown, some infamous.
The Power of One
It was one of those once-in-a-life-time moments. The entire
World celebrated Christmas Eve, 1968, by sitting glued to
television sets. Apollo 8 was in Moon orbit, broadcasting
first-ever, live television shots of the Moon's surface. Man
had yet to set foot on the Moon, so this Moon orbit was
truly an historic moment.

Why Self Esteem Matters
A number of years ago I worked for one of the UK's top IT companies -- a global player. We were meeting to discuss a major bid, and the room was filled with people who didn't meet often -- the most senior managers from a number of divisions. There were very few middle tier managers in the room, almost exclusively senior managers who were accustomed to being 'top dog'. The atmosphere in that room was almost tangible. I wanted to bottle the air and analyse it later -- I had never experienced such naked power, and it dawned on me in that moment that we are almost blind to the status signals we transmit.
Aim High
Change is difficult for many people. Often times our whole identity is wrapped up in what we've learned as children will work for us when dealing with people, allowing us to survive, thrive and fit in. While some people have had to learn to thrive in the midst of change and learned to be adaptable by being open to new ideas and embracing change, many others have had to fight for survival and every table-scrap that came their way. Behavior is learned and it takes work to unlearn and dismantle these old beliefs.
Breaking Bonds
I am just out of high school, and I have come to realize what I really want is completely out of my family's standards. I come from an Indian family, where the standards are extremely high. Like in most Indian families, I am expected to become a doctor or engineer. To please them, I followed a course in high school for science and mathematics.

When Failure is a Gift
I wanted, for many many years, to be a mystery writer. Finally I wrote a mystery novel. I got a best-selling novelist to be my mentor and help me with the rewrite. I got an agent. They sent the book out. And sent it out. And sent it out. And it went nowhere.

Ignorance and Fantasy
Are beliefs not often the children of ignorance and fantasy? Consider the heavenly view of the world that young souls entertain at the height of their innocence, when their youth has been surrounded by love and filled with happiness. Hear their laughter. Dreams expand in a vacuity of knowledge like a laughing gas and induce the blindest, the purest joy. Ignorance is bliss, as they say, because it spares us the mental restraints associated with knowledge (which reveals the limits of reality and hence the impossibility of our fantasies). It is the ultimate playground where the mind can build castles in the air, create a wonderland, and live delightedly in this kingdom of reverie. It paves the way for the reign of error, as it leaves us to believe whatever we like. Everything that is desirable is realizable, if not real, until we find evidence to the contrary. Santa Claus eventually dies of our old age ? when we are no longer so young, so green, that we are easily fooled by a tall story.

From the Hint of a Rainbow to...
The grey sky of morning contained an ominous quality. The clouds were so thick they were almost tangible. Then I saw it. Faintly sandwiched between the clouds was the hint of a rainbow. Barely visible were the bands of color, with a straining, subtle expectancy as the dim colors arched upward. It was the beginnings of a rainbow. The hint of a possibility of something beautiful, magical and rare.

Where Has All the ENCHANTMENT Gone? Long Time Passing
I thought you might enjoy reading a professional article I prepared several years ago. I am eager to hear from you, as always.
